Specialty Marine, Incorporated (SMI), a Virginia Corporation was founded in January, 1990, by the current owners, Mr. William H.J. Fairing (Bill) who serves as President and Mr. Herrel L. Gallop Jr. (Buddy) who serves as Vice President.
Specialty Marine, Inc. was founded to provide quality services to repair, overhaul, modernize and maintain vessels of the fleet and private sector ship repair industry. The Corporation is headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia and provides services, primarily in the Hampton Roads area.
Specialty Marine, Inc. is prepared and has the technical expertise, understanding and unique capability for the accomplishment of the full range of planning, scheduling, procurement, overhaul/repair, installation and testing of various equipment and systems of modern Naval Vessels.
Specialty Marine has provided services of all aspects of ship repairs to Military Sealift Command for the past twenty nine years. We have a 43,000 square foot shop located in Chesapeake, Va. We have full machine shop, welding, painting, fabrication and repair capabilities. We have access to local and out of state subcontractors in the event there is an area of work that we do not perform. In addition we have established accounts with local and out of state vendors in the event materials are required. We are financially stable and have excellent credit with both subcontractors and vendors. Our workers are skilled and welders are ABS certified. We perform testing in accordance with both ABS and United States Coast Guard procedures. William Fairing graduated from Kings Point Maritime Academy and holds a degree in marine engineering and is capable of performing load calculations and any requirements involved with test procedures or mechanical repairs.
Our past performance with both government and commercial ship repairs is excellent and has been for the past twenty nine years. Over the past years we have acquired great skill in the work we perform and continue to serve the industry well.
